7 tips to motivate yourself to workout
It’s cold, you’re tired from work, the couch is so comfortable… many things can get in the way of achieving our best physical form, excuses are everywhere but here are some simple habits to help you maintain your motivation high even when roadblocks appear. Set your fitness goals and embrace the challenge!
- PUT ON YOUR FITNESS CLOTHES
Don't think about it, just put them on! By doing so, you are already changing your mind frame and less likely to dive directly into the sofa. Find a comfortable wardrobe that you’ll enjoy wearing and start feeling the energy rush!
- FOCUS ON HOW YOU FEEL AFTER EXERCISING
One great way to maintain your motivation is to recall that good feeling you get right after working out. It doesn’t even have to be a long routine! That sensation in itself is a reward and keeping that in mind can help you overcome laziness and start moving, even if you haven’t exercised in a while. Remind yourself of how good you felt after that workout or how you liked the way you looked in that outfit. Focus on the good!
- SHORTER WORKOUTS!
Many people think that spending hours exercising is the only way to get in better shape but evidence suggests that shorter sessions may be more effective for a number of reasons. First, the “I don’t have time” excuse no longer applies, especially if you take into consideration all the time we spend everyday checking our phones or watching reality shows. Also, if you know that you’ll have to invest a couple of hours to training, is easier to skip the workout when your day gets a bit busier.
- PUT TOGETHER AN AMAZING WORKOUT PLAYLIST
There are songs that have the power to immediately put you in an active mood. Make a selection of all your favorite tracks, especially the ones that invite you to move around. Pump up the volume when you’re feeling energy-low and considering about skipping your workout session.
- ONE BIG GOAL VS SEVERAL LITTLE GOALS
It’s more likely to feel your motivation fade out when the goal seems epic and almost unattainable. Setting smaller goals for yourself will give a sense of accomplishment each time you train, boosting your confidence. Remember that progress is not immediate so focus on the long term. Embrace the best version of yourself!
- VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE
Follow a workout routine that includes activities you really enjoy and look forward to doing. Spinning, yoga, going out for a run or Zumba classes… anything that feels more like having fun and less than just exercising is a great choice!
